Medicine Hat College is a board governed public college operating under the authority of the Post-secondary Learning Act of Alberta.

Medicine Hat College is a learner-centered institution serving a diverse range of students in the major areas of study including: liberal arts, business/commerce, health and human services, physical education, visual and performing arts, science, apprenticeship trades, academic upgrading, and general education programs.

Medicine Hat College focuses on four primary types of programming:

*Undergraduate degrees and university transfer programs that prepare learners for further study and employment. *Certificate, diploma, and applied degree programs that prepare learners for entry to careers and employment. *College and university entrance programming that prepares learners for success in further post-secondary studies. *Pre-employment and apprenticeship trades programming that prepares learners for trades employment and careers.

As such, Medicine Hat College emphasizes small classes, high quality instruction and student support. By incorporating a global focus in its programming, serving a diverse range of Canadian and international students, and providing opportunities for work and study abroad, the College aims to provide all learners with opportunities to develop the skills and attitudes required to function successfully in an interconnected global society, world, and economy. Medicine Hat College also encourages scholarly activity, including applied research, as contributing to teaching excellence and quality programming.
